As Hell Retreats is blazing a trail across North America with technical proficiency and aptitude for
the progressive end of death metal that defies their relative youth.
The Southern based metal band draws deeply from the musical well of the more complex
time-signature warping death and black metal acts. They combine those staples and nuances
with a thought-provoking lyrical approach that is the product of personal struggle, heartbreak and
the quest for true meaning in life.
The band’s second album, Volition, is a conceptual affair that weaves a complete story from beginning to end. From album opener “Young Heretic” to “Only Hope,” the music travels chapter
by chapter through an individual’s struggles with tragedy, depression and uncertainty,
concluding with the hope found in Biblical truth.
